Association for Tropical Biology, 2002 Annual Meeting

July 29-Aug 2, Panama City, Panama

The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama City, Panama will host the annual meeting of the Association for Tropical Biology, "Tropical forests, Past, Present and Future," from July 29-Aug. 2, 2002 in Panama City, Panama. The conference will synthesize recent advances in tropical biology with an emphasis on ecology and evolution. Twenty-one symposia will involve participants in discussions of tropical paleoclimate, prehistoric populations and their interaction with the environment; current forest function and biodiversity; forest fragmentation, carbon balance and conservation topics. Symposium organizers include STRI staff scientists and many well-known tropical biologists. A complete list of symposia is found at the meeting website (http://www.stri.org/atb2002/). The conference is co-sponsored by the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, the Center for Tropical Forest Science and the Organization for Tropical Studies.
