Science writers to explore new horizons of science and technology 'Smorgasbord' for science writers Science writers nationwide will gather October 27-30 at Washington University in St. Louis to partake in an intellectual smorgasbord of new science and technology topics.Washington University in St. Louis will host the 2002 Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW) New Horizons in Science Briefing, Sunday, Oct. 27 through Wednesday, Oct. 30. The briefing is open to all bona fide reporters and public information specialists from academic institutions. The sessions this year will begin on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m., rather than on Monday morning, long a CASW tradition. The change allows science writers more attractive air fares and one day less away from the newsroom. There is no registration fee. The intensive, four-day gathering of national and international science journalists has been held annually since 1963. CASW has been a vital force in fostering accurate and timely writing about science/technology/medical topics since 1959. It is a non-profit educational corporation run by distinguished journalists and scientists to increase public understanding of science. CASW does this in part by conducting science programs that enhance the quality of medical , science and technology reporting and improve the relationship between scientists and the press. The purpose of the New Horizons Briefing is to keep science journalists and communicators "briefed" and educated about science and medical topics that will be newsworthy for months and years to come. There will be lots of stories to file. Numerous Washington University scientists and engineers from the Hilltop and Medical School campuses will be joining their distinguished counterparts from around the country to make newsworthy presentations.
