
August 2002 From Virginia Tech Disaster response, public safety, ultra wideband, bluetooth among topics at wireless conference BLACKSBURG, Va., Aug 27, 2002 -- Timely telecommunications issues including disaster response, public safety wireless networks, telemedicine, ultra wideband spectrum policy, and the future of wireless technology will be addressed during the Wireless Opportunities Workshop, September 22 and 23, presented by Virginia Tech's Center for Wireless Telecommunications (CWT)."Meeting New Challenges" is the theme for this year's conference. Paul Kolodzy, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission's Spectrum Technology Task Force, will be the keynote speaker during lunch on Monday, September 23. Other speakers for the day will represent Lockheed Martin, Tyco, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Xtreme Spectrum, U.S. Department of Justice, University of Maryland, and Digital Government Research Center. A pre-conference seminar on two emerging technologies--ultra wideband and Bluetooth--will be offered on September 22. Seating will be limited, so early registration is recommended. The registration deadline is September 9. The conference will be held at Virginia Tech's Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center.
