First in New York: PMDD and postpartum depression symposium for the general public

For the first time, New Yorkers will be able to attend a symposium that provides general information about mood changes throughout a woman's life span. The symposium will take place on Saturday, June 2, from 8 am to 1 pm, at NYU Medical Center, 550 First Avenue (at 31st Street), Schwartz Auditorium.

Experts will discuss mood swings in pregnancy and postpartum; premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD); perimenopause and menopause -- and provide information on the latest treatments. Sponsored by the Departments of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Medical Center, the event will offer opportunities for informative discussions between experts and the general public.

�This will be the very first time that these topics will be presented in New York for the general public,� says Shari I. Lusskin, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, NYU School of Medicine, who will deliver both the keynote address and one of the major presentations at the conference.

In addition to Dr. Lusskin, speakers will include Shaila Misri, MD, Professor of Psychiatry and Obstetrics & Gynecology, University of British Columbia; Kimberly Yonkers, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Yale University School of Medicine; and Yvette Martas, MD, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology, NYU School of Medicine.
