June 2001 From Ketchum Alzheimer's disease and the dementia continuum: New data that may change the way patients are treated around the worldVirtually everyone is aware of Alzheimer's disease and its devastating impact on patients and society. However, what is not as widely known or recognised is that cerebrovascular disease - such as strokes triggered by uncontrolled hypertension or diabetes - also is a common cause or contributor to dementia. Statistics now show that vascular dementia is the second-most-common form of the disorder (behind Alzheimer's disease). Until now, there was little known about how to effectively treat dementia in these patients. However, new data - to be presented this month at the World Congress of Neurology - are beginning to emerge on both the characteristics of these patients as well as on how to treat them. These new data will be highlighted and discussed at a press conference which will impact on the management of patients with dementia around the world: WHEN: 09.30-10.30 Tuesday 19 June 2001 WHERE: Sheraton Park Lane Hotel, Park Lane, London W1 PRESS CONFERENCE AGENDA Alzheimer's Disease and Beyond: Emerging Thinking on the Dementia Continuum Chairman's Introduction Understanding the Dementia Continuum The Challenges of Treating Mixed and Vascular Dementia Launch of First Data on Mixed/Vascular Dementia Questions to the Panel WEBCAST: REGISTER NOW!!
