December 2001 From Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Experimental Biology 2002 meets April 20-24 in New Orleans Translating the GenomeWhat: In what has become one of the worlds most significant interdisciplinary gathering of biological and biomedical scientists, nearly 12,000 independent researchers from the United States and other nations will meet in New Orleans Saturday April 20 through Wednesday April 24 for Experimental Biology 2002. EB 2002s Translating the Genome is the 11th annual meeting of varying groups of scientific societies joining together in the Experimental Biology meeting. Where: Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans Why: Whatever their own field of study, participating scientists share an interest in the processes underlying human development, function, and aging, and the way diseases develop and can be treated or prevented. The individual societies hold their own sessions on new technology relevant to the field. But meeting together gives them unparalleled opportunities to share advances with scientists investigating similar research questions with the viewpoint and tools of their own different disciplines. As a result, reporters covering EB have an opportunity to hear first hand the research findings upon which medical advances are made and to see interdisciplinary science and debate in action. Who: The week offers thousands of individual research presentations, symposia by well-known leaders in fields of experimental biology research, internationally prominent distinguished lecturers who give talks and receive awards, and numerous poster sessions. Sponsoring scientific societies for Experimental Biology 2002 are: The American Physiological Society, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, American Society for Investigative Pathology, American Society for Nutritional Sciences, American Association of Immunologists, American Association of Anatomists, and various guests societies.
