Cancer conference unveils new alternative therapies, researchComprehensive Cancer Care 2000, the nation's only conference exploring how alternative and traditional therapies work together for cancer patients, is June 9-11 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va. The meeting is expected to draw more than 1000 cancer patients, physicians, nurses, researchers, policymakers and alternative therapy practitioners. For the first time, every comprehensive cancer center in the U.S. is attending. Sponsored by National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), the conference includes scientific sessions on such innovative treatments as nutritional therapy for pancreatic cancer, homeopathic treatment for gastric and esophageal cancer, integrative treatment programs for advanced cancer, novel approaches to breast and prostate cancer, and promising new Chinese and western herbal therapies. The conference includes four tracks: patient, practice, research and healing. Pre-conference workshops focus on techniques to integrate complementary and alternative therapies in oncology practices. The conference also launches Comprehensive Cancer Care, a new book by James S. Gordon, M.D., Director of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM). The conference is sponsored by The Center For Mind-Body Medicine, a nonprofit organization devoted to creating effective humane models of integrative medicine and to making those models available and accessible to all.
