Comedy fantasy author Terry Pratchett turns 2 scientists into wizards

Best selling comedy fantasy author Terry Pratchett will receive an honorary degree for his contribution to introducing real science concepts to the massive readership of his Discworld books at the University of Warwick on Wednesday 14th July 1999 and in return will turn two leading scientists into honorary wizards Part of the reason for gaining the Honorary Degree has been his recent contribution in helping to introduce his huge audience of Discworld fans to some key modern science concepts. Last month published a book in collaboration with Professor Ian Stewart and Dr Jack Cohen entitled "The Science of Discworld" published by Ebury Press. The book uses the fantasy setting of the Discworld to explain the real science of our own real universe.

Before the main degree ceremony begins Terry will hold a short ceremony to make University of Warwick researchers and fellow Science of Discworls Authours Professor Ian Stewart and Dr Jack Cohen "honorary Wizards of the Unseen University" - the fictional University run by Wizards that appears in many of Terry's books. Terry, Professor Ian Stewart and Dr Jack Cohen will all be in colourful academic costume and will be wearing large wizard hats ann carrying wizards' staffs.....
