Washington, DC, March 15, 1999- Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, Director-General of the World Health Organization, will give two major speeches during her visit to Washington this week.

The first is a keynote address on Thursday, March 18 on "The Tobacco Epidemic: A threat to the World's Children," at the International Policy Conference on Children and Tobacco, being held at the Organization of American States.

The second is a Morning Newsmaker event on Friday, March 19 at the National Press Club on the World Health Organization's reform process and the impact of U.S. payment policy.

Thursday, March 18, 1999, 9:15 a.m., Hall of the Americas, Organization of American States, 17th Street and Constitution Ave, NW: Dr. G.H. Brundtland to give Keynote Address at the International Policy Conference on Children and Tobacco on "The Tobacco Epidemic: A threat to the World's Children." Friday, March 19, 1999, 9 a.m., cNational Press Club - 529 14th St. NW, 13th Floor : Dr. G. H. Brundtland Morning Newsmaker breakfast: Description: Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, the director-general of the World Health Organization, will discuss the organization's reform and the impact of U.S. payment policy.

During her visit to Washington, Dr. Brundtland will also meet with Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, U.S. Senators Richard J. Durbin, Ron Wyden, and Susan Collins, co-sponsors of the conference on children and tobacco; members of the House Appropriations Committee, and Tim Wirth, President of the U.N. Foundation.
