Materials Congress 2000 - call for papersThe Institute of Materials has issued a call for papers for Materials Congress 2000. The overall theme of the event will be Materials for the 21st Century: Innovation and Sustainability. Papers are requested for the three core themes of the conference programme: structure of materials, progress in materials processing and applications and functional materials synthesis, characterisation and exploitation. The basis of the technical programme has been established following wide consultation amongst the Institute?s membership and after discussions with leaders of industry and academia. Prospective authors are invited to submit abstracts of approximately 500 words by no later than Thursday 30 September 1999 for consideration for the orally presented programme and Tuesday 1 February for consideration for the poster programme. Materials Congress 2000 will be the first major meeting of the millennium for materials engineers and scientists and will be held on 12 to14 April 2000 at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester, Wiltshire, UK. 2. The event will attract some 600 delegates from the forefront of materials technology and will include a comprehensive conference programme, two major exhibitions and a full social programme of activities. 3. The Institute of Materials is the professional organisation of the materials community.
