Local students unleash a genie and make elephant toothpasteNational Chemistry Week Washington, DC November 10, 1999WHO: 50 fifth and sixth grade students from Stevens Elementary School, Wash., D.C.; Chemistry students and their teacher, Mr. Nusret Hisim from Walkersville High School, Frederick County, Md; American Chemical Society volunteers. WHAT: Walkersville High School students will conduct a demonstration show and the Stevens Elementary School students will participate in many hands-on chemistry activities. Students will investigate the unexpected: how to make toothpaste for elephants, unleash a genie and see what happens when chemists mix glue and borax. WHERE: American Chemical Society Marvel Hall 1155 16th Street, NW Washington, DC 20036 WHEN: Wednesday, November 10th 10:30 - 11:10 a.m. - Chemistry Demonstration Show 11:20 a.m. - noon - Hands-on Activities This event is being held in celebration of National Chemistry Week (as featured in Sunday's Parade Magazine), a nationwide program of the American Chemical Society, the world's largest scientific society, to enhance the public's awareness of the contributions that chemistry makes to society and our everyday lives.
