Health Ministers Directors Of PAHO, WHO Meet Monday

Ministers of Health from all the countries of the Americas, plus PAHO Director Dr. George Alleyne and new WHO Director-General Dr. Gro Harlem Brudtland will get together at the 1998 Pan American Sanitary Conference of the Pan American Health Organization.

WHEN: The meeting opens Monday, Sept. 21 starting at 9 a.m. with presentations by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Donna Shalala, PAHO Director Dr. George Alleyne WHO Director-General, Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, and other health ministers. The meeting runs through Friday, Sept. 25.

WHERE: Pan American Health Organization, 525 23rd St. NW, (23rd St. At Virginia Ave), Washington. The meetings will be in Room A on the 2nd Floor.

WHY: To bring together the member nations of the Organization, which includes all the Health Ministers from the hemisphere, from Canada to the tip of South America, to solve regional issues affecting the health of all the people.

AGENDA:Important items under consideration include: AIDS in the Americas, Health of older persons, health impact of El Ni�o, vaccines and immunization, population and reproductive health, strategic orientations in health for 1999-2002, presentation of the new Health in the Americas report, and election of the Director of PAHO.
