The New York Botanical Garden Adds Two New Volumes To Its Memoirs Monograph SeriesBRONX, NY, January 1, 1998 -- Volumes 80 and 81 of the Memoirs of The New York Botanical Garden monograph series are now available, bound together in one hardcover book: VOLUME 80 A REVISION OF THE GENUS CINCHONA (RUBIACEAE-CINCHONEAE) BY LENNART ANDERSSON Because of its medicinal importance as a source of quinine, the genus Cinchona L. has attracted extraordinary attention from taxonomists historically. More than 330 names are considered in this revision, which aims to improve the reputation of one of the most infamous genera of Andean plants. Twenty-three species are recognized here, three of them new to science: Cinchona antioquiae L. Andersson (Colombia), C. fruticosa L. Andersson (Peru), and C. pyrifolia L. Andersson (Peru). VOLUME 81 SYSTEMATICS OF ERISMA (VOCHYSIACEAE) BY MARIA LUCIA KAWASAKI This monograph provides systematic studies on Erisma, one of the seven genera of the tropical family Vochysiaceae. Erisma is distinguished from the other genera of the family by the inferior and unilocular ovary, the deciduous, spurred calyx-lobe, and the samaroid, four-winged fruits. The 16 species of Erisma are tall trees predominantly in terra firme forests of the Amazon region, most of them with a limited distribution. An overview of morphology and anatomy is provided, and patterns of distribution and ecology are discussed. ______________________________________________________ A REVISION OF THE GENUS CINCHONA (RUBIACEAE-CINCHONEAE), by Lennart Andersson, ISBN 0-89327-416-X and SYSTEMATICS OF ERISMA (VOCHYSIACEAE), by Maria Lucia Kawasaki, ISBN 0-89327-417-8, Volumes 80 and 81 of the Memoirs of The New York Botanical Garden (bound together as one book), 120 Pages, 36 Plates of Illustrations, $24.00 (plus postage & handling).
