BUCK The pleurocarpous mosses of Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the West Indies are keyed, illustrated, and described in detail here. Three orders are treated: Hookeriales, Leucodontales, and Hypnales. Within these, 30 families, 125 genera, and 254 species are treated. Nomenclatural novelties proposed are Actinodontium integrifolium (Broth.) S.P. Churchill, comb. nov., A. pygmaeum sp. nov., Porotrichodendron lindigii (Hampe) comb. nov., Brachythecium ruderale (Brid.) comb. nov., Rhynchostegium ambiguum (Schwagr.) comb. nov., Barbellopsis trichophora (Mont.) comb. nov., Meteorium pseudoteres sp. nov., and Chryso-hypnum salleanum (Besch.) comb. nov. Because the scientific study of plants is not complete until the results are published, the Scientific Publications Department of The New York Botanical Garden was established in 1896 for the purpose of disseminating the Gardens research results and information to the scientific community and the general public. It is presently the largest publishing program of any independent botanical garden in the world.
