First Ever Retrieval Of Complete "Black Smokers" From Ocean FloorPress briefing to announce results of "black smoker" expedition held at the University of Washington, Seattle. Speakers include American Museum of Natural History President Ellen V. Futter; University of Washington President Richard McCormick; and co-leaders of the expedition John R. Delaney, professor of Oceanography at the University, and Edmond A. Mathez, chairman of the Museum's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. After the program, journalists will be escorted onto the U.W.'s Thomas G. Thompson, one of the expedition ships, to view the black smokers and discuss the expedition with scientists, engineers, and educators from the United States and Canada.
