Press Conference: Solar Flares Produce "Sunquakes"

Please note: Release has been revised since it's initial posting.

The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) has revealed that solar flares, which occur above the surface of the Sun, can produce seismic disturbances deep below its surface, measuring up to magnitude 15 on a scale that reaches only to 10 on Earth.

Dr. Valentina Zharkova of Glasgow University's Department of Physics and Astronomy will discuss this discovery, how it was achieved, and its implications. (Sessions on solar flares and related phenomena will take place Thursday and Friday.)
