The National Science Foundation is joining other federal agencies in preparing to implement the requirements of the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) of 1993. The law requires all federal agencies to account for program results through the integration of strategic planning, budgeting and performance measurement. The GPRA process will ultimately be integrated into the federal budget process.

By August of this year, agencies must submit GPRA-compliant strategic plans to OMB. By September 30, final versions of these plans must be submitted to Congress. NSF has been moving steadily within the past year toward integration of its strategic plan with the intent and requirements of GPRA. The agency is receiving ongoing input from advisory committees and the National Science Board, and is consulting with the Congress. Now, in preparation for the August deadline, NSF is welcoming input from the broader science and engineering community on its draft GPRA Strategic Plan.
